Don’t be afraid to chase your dream…or your tail.
When Kristin’s family begged to get a dog five years ago, she was the one who resisted. An experience with a childhood dog left her with a bad taste in her mouth, and her type A personality only thought about messes, dog hair and inconvenience.
Finally they wore her down, and she considers this persistence to be a significant factor in why Dog Love Repeat exists today. Because Kristin worked for a large corporation from home, she and Trixie bonded quickly and immediately they were inseparable. This 10-pound dog brought new peace, joy and unconditional love to Kristin’s life.
Minnesota winters are quite harsh, and providing Trixie a wardrobe to stay warm was a necessity. Kristin was underwhelmed by the choices she found shopping locally and on line. She didn’t see a lot of color, fun or whimsy in the options – products that matched the aesthetics of her own wardrobe and home decor.
Fast forward a couple of years…Kristin was still working at a corporate job where she had worked for nearly 15 years. In this role she had exposure to the importance and fine art of branding. In her personal life, she dabbled in painting, writing poetry and interior design and longed for more creativity in her work life. That’s when the idea of launching an online dog boutique began to percolate.
The maker movement was exploding, but Kristin didn’t really see that crossing over into the dog market. Considering herself an artist, raised by a mother who is an artist and an art teacher, she has always had a special spot in her soul for the artist community. She also saw how seriously undervalued artists are in our society. She had found her niche – offering only handmade, carefully curated goods to dogs and to humans who love them…ones that last and make you smile.
In addition to feeling passionate about supporting artists, Dog Love Repeat also insists on making the smallest carbon foot(and paw)print possible on our environment. Finally, we give back. We donate a portion of our proceeds to causes nearest and dearest to our hearts: dog adoption and rescue, supporting the arts and artists, and mental illness awareness, research and treatment – a subject that has touched many aspects of Kristin’s personal story.
Thank you for playing a supporting role in our dream.
